H*ld Self Storage wanted to reduce energy costs, cut reliance on grid supplied electricity and improve the long term sustainability of their King’s Cross facility, without interrupting day to day operations.
JR Revell designed and delivered a high efficiency solar PV installation that allows the building to generate a significant proportion of its own electricity, while exporting surplus energy back to the grid. The system was designed to deliver long term performance, cost stability and a clear return on investment.
All works were carried out while the site remained fully operational. As a busy self storage facility, uninterrupted access and safety were essential. JR Revell carefully planned and phased the installation, coordinating closely with the client to manage access and sequencing. All essential electrical shutdowns were completed outside operating hours to avoid disruption.
The installation comprises a SolarEdge commercial PV system with an installed capacity of over 150kWp. High efficiency solar panels and voltage optimisers were used to maximise generation and performance across the array, delivering an estimated annual output of more than 130MWh. This supplies over half of the site’s total electricity demand.
A dedicated monitoring and energy management platform provides real time visibility of system performance, enabling proactive maintenance and rapid fault identification. This supports consistent output and long term operational efficiency.
Safety was built into the system design. The solar installation is fully integrated with the site fire alarm system, automatically shutting down generation in the event of an alarm and restarting once the system is clear. This provides reassurance for building users and emergency services alike.
The completed installation is forecast to reduce grid supplied energy use by approximately fifty percent, delivering strong financial and environmental benefits. Annual carbon savings are estimated at over twenty five tonnes, supporting H*ld Self Storage’s wider sustainability objectives.
