Fire safety is critical in a live vehicle body shop environment. With high value vehicles, specialist equipment and processes such as cutting, grinding and welding taking place daily, early and reliable fire detection is essential.
Maldon Accident Repair Centre needed a system that could identify fire at the earliest possible stage, including fast developing flaming fires that produce little or no smoke. Speed of detection mattered, but so did resilience. The system had to perform in a challenging workshop environment without generating false alarms or disrupting day to day operations.
JR Revell assessed the existing fire strategy and worked closely with the client to identify the right solution. While an aspirating smoke detection system was already in place, it did not provide the level of response the site required.
After detailed research and consultation with manufacturers, JR Revell proposed a video fire detection system to supplement the existing setup. Video detection allows rapid identification of flame and heat signatures, providing earlier warning where traditional smoke based systems can be slower to react.
The Ciqurix Core video fire detection system was selected due to its proven performance in demanding industrial environments and full compliance with BS 5839 1. The system was well suited to the realities of the workshop, tolerating airborne particulates from cutting and welding while maintaining accurate detection.
The project moved quickly. The quotation was approved within minutes, and JR Revell mobilised on site the following week. Installation and commissioning were completed within two weeks, followed by a soak test period prior to handover. Throughout the works, JR Revell engineers coordinated closely with the site team to minimise disruption and maintain safe operation.
The completed system provides faster and more reliable fire detection, improved asset protection and greater peace of mind for the client.
